A lot's gone on in the last week, some I'd deliberately kept off the internet... just in case, yunno?
R got back from his business trip to Inuvik and Norman Wells on Saturday evening with many tales of the carryings on that occurred while he was north of the arctic circle... And yes there were many. If y'all wanna hear about most of them you'll have to ask him, but I will say that he was too far north to see the aurora. How crazy is that?! Too far north. HA.
The night he got back the sky was FINALLY clear, so we drove out past Giant Mine, sat at the side of the road and watched as there were giant gobs of paint dropped down through the sky. Obviously that's not what actually happens... but that's what it looks like. I tried to get a few good shots and failed miserably. That's kinda what happens when it's -22, you're standing outside in the dark without gloves or a tripod. Mittens are somewhat useless for the itty bitty buttons that you need to fiddle with for that all important extended exposure... lots of blur. Lots. Still, the colours against the sky were incredible.

In other news... after some serious searching and what felt like a million and one resumes... I have found a job! Making significantly more than I was, within walking distance... there's even an indoor parking space for me if I'd like to use it (those are like gold here) and a managerial position at the cafe that the owner's in the process of opening... when it opens that is. After stressing out about the job thing since roughly September 20... I can finally sit back and relax a little. Whee!
This past week I decided that as I had lost my main hobby when I left Guelph (that'd be the fish tanks) I should pick up a new one... so I'm teaching myself to knit. One ball of yarn, one book and a few other important odds and ends later.... there are nearly two inches of what will eventually be dishcloth done, huzzah! Only what feels like five hundred gazillion left to go.
So what's the sense of normal?
Well, R and I have always been kinda... old school. Sunday mornings involve tea and either toast or oatmeal while watching HGTV, usually followed by a walk. One of the things we love are what we call 'French Meals.' Easiest things in the world, seriously. Good cheese, a cured meat, some fruit, a baguette or crackers and a bottle of wine... along with a lazy evening of course. As of this afternoon I've found a cheese that I adore- I would pick it over a nice creamy Brie, we sourced some very reasonably priced cured meats and we had our first 'French Meal' in YK. It's always nice when you find a little bit of what you used to call normal.
