The last few days have provided a few awesome new experiences :)
First up- Ice fog. Looks like normal fog... kinda burns to breathe. I took the photo on the left at around 1:30pm while I was walking home from work, that's about an hour and a half from sunset. I'm less than a minute's walk from the trees in the background but the fog was so thick they were hard to see. Kiiiiind of awesome. It was so cold out that my phone froze while taking this photo, otherwise you'd have a few more photos of ptarmigan to check out, as well as a photo of a random fuzzy brown bird that I couldn't identify.

Today it was warm out... okay it's actually -20 but we both said the same thing when we went outside, "It feels kinda warm out here!" It really does say it all that we were outside in normal winter coats and jeans without snow pants, parkas, layered mittens... basically ⅔ of the winter clothing that's normally required. The Dettah ice road over Great Slave Lake has finally opened and the sign said there was a weight limit of 4500 kg so off we went, to Dettah! Not much to see there, it's your basic middle of nowhere type northern town. On our way back we stopped on the ice to take a few photos... which meant that we saw the RCMP (that'd be the Police) truck that blew past us getting set up to be towed out of the snow. THAT is why you don't drive like a madman on the ice! |
