Hello world, guess what! As of, I dunno, 35 minutes ago I have a plug for the laptop that came in the mail last week. Huzzah! I can type my name properly for the first time since September. Seriously, you have no idea how annoying it is to try and type when the v through m on your keyboard simply do not work.
That being said, SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED! Actually, now that I think about it... not really. But here are the highlights.
Well, I went home for Christmas... and brought the ice storm home with me. There are lots of photos but they're currently on R's laptop and I shall wait until he gets home to remove/edit/post them. The trip here was somewhat eventful, our flight was late getting into Edmonton, and if the flight to Toronto had been on time we probably wouldn't have made it. Thankfully it was delayed... although they neglected to let people know that so we had a mad dash through the airport.

Fun times!
Mum, Dad and I braved the Boxing Day crowds at the Eaton's Centre and snagged some awesome deals, I used most of the gift cards that I was given for Christmas. We stopped on the way back to the car to take some photos in front of the tree that was set up in Nathan Phillip's Square.
Came home, had an awesome new years that involved walking out onto a lake near city hall to watch one of the best fireworks shows we've seen in years... at -42 (without the windchill) of course. We were nice and warm with our big coats + boots on, but if you were to look at us you'd think we were freezing. So much frost formed on our outerwear!! I've included a photo above. Dad provided a prime rib and an awesome bottle of wine so we enjoyed that once we got home that night. Yes, I carried a prime rib across the country in my suitcase. There were some bacon wrapped beef tenderloins too.

On January 25th we had a different sort of evening... we attended a hockey game between a local team consisting of members of the YK Fire Department, local teachers and I believe there were a few police officers as well. The opposing team... why, the Montreal Canadians Alumni Team of course? The guy walking onto the ice in black is Guy Lafleur, and I've included a photo of the whole lineup below.
As of Friday the 7th I will no longer work for the cafe that I started with when I first got here... I've accepted a position with the Federal Government that will start on Monday. Somewhat out of the blue but it'll be a nice change. I was really starting to get fed up with the 4:30am alarm clock, but I'll miss a few of the people I work with... and having the whole afternoon to myself of course.

I'm really looking forward to Valentine's Day this year, but not for the reasons you's expect. This year on February 14th, the sun will rise at 8:28am and set at 5:17pm. That will be the first time this year that the sun both rises and sets when R isn't at work... how exciting is THAT? Our weather lately hasn't been too cold either, which is a nice treat. Today it's only -16, warm enough that I didn't need snow pants for my walks to and from work. I just received possibly the best email I've ever received in my life from my mom. It's 3 words long, I've included the entire text below. Subject: Today Cancer free My mom is a total badass, she kicked cancer's ass. And on that note, I shall sign off. |
