We are, truly. I've got a pot of potato leek soup on the stove for lunch, this morning we wandered downtown to visit the book store after doing our standard... hot caffeinated beverage + HGTV thing and R's currently out cleaning his truck.
Our bed arrived this week... huzzah! No more air mattresses! We've found a few good items on YK trader (like Kijiji but for Yellowknife) which is really helping with the whole, making it feel more homey thing. Our coffee table was the best find so far... $20 and it's actually kind of pretty.
I turned 24 on Wednesday, we didn't really do much for it but it was a good birthday overall. Lots of texts, emails and facebook messages were sent my way and R made a cake + dinner for me. Nothing fancy, but his birthday is less than a week away so we're going to do dinner out then... perhaps we'll find a good thai place around here!

This past Friday we went back to the pub we'd discovered when we first got here for a bit of social time with one of R's colleagues, his wife and a few friends of theirs. It was nice to have an evening out, talk to some people who'd been here for a while and make some new friends. The colleague's birthday is next week as well so we'll probably have a birthday thing to go to next week.
Not much else is really all that new, R saw the aurora for the first time a few nights ago but it wasn't good enough for photos, we're starting to get the lay of the land... GPS or Google Maps aren't consulted every time we leave the house and we now know where to find most of the things we need on a daily basis.

On Thanksgiving Sunday R + I went on an adventure... we visited Giant Mine. When I was very little we actually lived out by the mine site which is roughly 20 minutes away from where we live now. The mine has since been shut down and the houses have been abandoned (there are "Danger" and "Warning, Asbestos" signs everywhere) but there's still a whole lot that hasn't changed at all. As soon as we got past the fence that's supposed to keep everyone out I knew exactly where we were... and could remember playing in certain areas.
Our house, like all of the houses around there, no longer had a fence, windows, doors or really any sign of life. It was still our old house though.... the staircase off the back was still there, it had more black dirt than any of the other houses... Remember the time we worked on that awful front lawn? And the paved area where Mike Hunkin (spelling?) put the streamers, horn etc on the pink bike was dirty but solid. There were even a gazillion tennis balls in the rocks behind the house.
It was so, SO strange to be able to go back to a house where I'd lived.

Thanksgiving dinner was a rather simple affair. I roasted a chicken and made champ... figured out how to thicken gravy without any flour (puree the potato you roasted the chicken on into the pan drippings, then strain out any lumps). I made what felt like a million tarts and pies... really it was only 2 pies and 2 dozen tarts, still felt like a lot though. One pie was gone within 48 hours, the tarts went to R's office and there's still around 3/4 of the second pie left in the fridge. Does pumpkin pie freeze well?
