There's nothing quite like a room with a view. We got into Edmonton around 5pm on October 1st and were delighted to find that unlike the last view of a rooftop and highway, this room has an awesome view. Fairly sure I have too many photos of it now.
Well, first up... the West Edmonton Mall. We wandered around for a while, shopped for some birthday gifts and had dinner while we were there. Not too exciting, but we were tired and we'd stroked off the landmark that everyone asks about in one evening.

After wandering around downtown Edmonton on foot today we stopped for lunch at the Blue Plate Diner. Mac and Cheese, a beer, a meatloaf sandwich and a rootbeer float were ordered, all of which were delicious. The mac and cheese could have used some work- the sauce tasted almost floury at times, and the beer could have been colder... not to mention David who seemed to enjoy lollygagging about in the back instead of retrieving food from the pass (I watched it sit for 5 minutes) or being remotely prompt with the beverages. The meatloaf sandwich, however, was absolutely delicious and I've come to the conclusion that I've got to re-create it at home. Roasted onion aioli and house made bbq sauce? Yes please! Overall though.... I'd probably give it a 2/5 and I wouldn't go back until I'd tried and vetoed a few more local lunch type places.
Dinner this evening was at a little place called Bistro Saisons... specifically selected because it was within walking distance of the hotel... and because it satisfied my need for something local and a liiiiittle bit food-snob esque. Steak frites were ordered and they didn't disappoint. The choice of a flat iron intrigued me but it was surprisingly tender and extremely flavourful. They paired it with perfectly crispy frites, a truffle aioli, roasted carrots + parsnips which were perfectly cooked and finished it with a shallot and tarragon butter... deeeelicious. While the food most certainly did not disappoint, the atmosphere was on the cold side but that's my only complaint. Overall I'd give it a 4/5 and yes, I'd go back in a heartbeat. Tomorrow we head north, High Level here we come. |
